Raspberry Pi has Competition

I was just reading that there is a competitor against the Raspberry Pi. Asus has released the Tinker Board.

  • Tinker Board has a 1.8 GHz processor, whereas, the Raspberry Pi has a 1.2 GHz processor
  • Tinker Board has 2 GB of Ram vs. the 1 GB with Raspberry Pi
  • Tinker Board has 4.0 Bluetooth vs. the 4.1 that you get with Raspberry Pi
  • Tinker Board come with 802.11 b/g/n, whereas, the Raspberry Pi only has n, although, to be fair, who would use anything earlier anyway
  • Both support HDMI although the Tinker Board specifies HDMI 2.0
  • Tinker Board supports 4K videos, but apparently doesn’t have the ability to stream Netflix in 4K.

It doesn’t appear to be available in the US right now, but it should be coming soon, and according to one site, it should be about $60. That’s quite a bit more than the $35 for Raspberry Pi.

For Sale: Used AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition Kuma Dual-Core 2.8 GHz Socket AM2+

I have a used AMD Athlon X2 7850 Dual Core processor for sale. I have been using it since 2009. It works fine and comes with the original heat sink and fan. If this would be an upgrade or replacement for your non-functional processor and you’d like it, just leave me a comment or message. I haven’t nailed down the price with shipping, but it will be roughly $10.
